he increasing use of social media has fundamentally changed how university students access political information and participate in civic life. Digital platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, X, and YouTube have become major sources of news, political discussion, and public debate. This study investigates the relationship between social media usage, political awareness, and civic participation among university students. It explores whether frequent exposure to political content encourages informed decision-making, voting behavior, and participation in community activities, or whether it contributes to misinformation, political polarization, and reduced trust in democratic institutions. Using a mixed-methods research design involving surveys and interviews, the study evaluates students' online behaviors and political attitudes. The findings suggest that while social media has expanded access to political information and increased civic engagement, it also presents challenges related to information credibility and digital manipulation. The study concludes that strengthening media literacy education is essential for promoting responsible political participation in the digital era.
